We are extremely proud to announce that six of our models have earned the prestigious Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) Top Safety Pick award for 2011. In fact, VW has more 2011 IIHS Top Safety Picks than any other brand, so it’s not just another lovely notch in our safety belt, it’s also bragging rights. But that’s neither here nor there.
So, what does this mean, for us, and for you? Well, for us, it means that we’re doing something right, and we’re doing it better than ever, as all IIHS Top Safety Picks must earn the highest rating of good in all four Institute tests (front, side, rear, roof-strength test evaluations). It also means that we’re never fully satisfied with the bar we’ve set for the vehicles we make, and that we can promise to keep pushing for even better and safer ones in the future.
And for you, it means that you and your family can rest even easier in your Volkswagen Jetta, Jetta Sportwagen, Golf (4-door model), GTI (4-door model), Tiguan, and Touareg, fully cognizant of the fact that what you’re driving has passed, and with flying colors, testing even more rigorous than that administered by the federal government. And we should mention that it’s not even a given to qualify for testing with the IIHS; all tested vehicles must possess both electronic stability control (ESC) as well as head protection airbags.
Needless to say, these Top Safety Picks have put a big smile on our faces here at Volkswagen going into the New Year. It’s been a groundbreaking 2010 for us, and 2011 looks to be even brighter.

A SPECIAL THANKS TO GOD AND VW!!!!!!!I cannot express how good it makes me feel to see so many VW employees and their families express their gratitude for the employee and family event hosted by VW. I have to say that my family is thankful to VW for a different reason. My 2006 VW Touareg was struck head-on in a motor vehicle crash on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. Both myself and my 4 year old niece were in my vehicle at the time of the crash, and both of us were able to walk out of the vehicle alive!
If it weren’t for the 4 Star Driver Front Crash Rating, I would not be alive today! My vehicle did EXACTLY what it was designed to do, and that is to absorb the impact of the collision and protect the lives of the passengers. I owe my life to GOD and VW, as the decision to purchase this vehicle on May 18,2011 was truly a life or death decision. I was a very proud owner of a VW Touareg (pics available on my FB page, before and after the collision.)
The’06 Touareg has been classified as a total loss by my insurance company, however, there is NO DOUBT in my mind that I will purchase another Touareg, to protect my family. Additionally, my sister (mother of my niece who was my rear driver side passenger), is also in the market for a new vehicle and will also be purchasing a VW! It doesn’t stop there…When my 5 year old nephew learned that I was involved in a motor vehicle crash and I no longer had the Touareg, his response was “Oh, not the cool car, I loved that car! But I’m glad my aunt Tash and Kayden are ok. But that was the cool car
” Luckily his mother (the third sister), has began looking at the Routan as her next family vehicle. In yet another ironic series of events, my mother who was visiting from Missouri, drove by the scene of of the crash, moments after it happened. My mother was in tears when she approached my vehicle and didn’t see Kayden and I. As soon as my mother was able to confirm Kayden and I were in one-piece and coherent, she immediately, looked to my 16 yr old cousin (who she has adopted), and said “We are getting one of those” pointing to my bruised Touareg. My 15 yr old daughter will be driving soon, and both she and my 16 yr old cousin have browsed the VW website to check out the new Jetta!
From my family to yours, we would like to thank God for watching over Kayden and I each and every day, and we would also like to thank the good people at VW for the compassion, care and quality they put into every vehicle they make!
