Last call: The plane is leaving for Germany

Less than two weeks remain to win the Volkswagen Golf R Ultimate Fan Experience: a seven-day, six-night trip to Germany that includes a tour of the Volkswagen global headquarters in Wolfsburg and a stop in Nürburg to drive the all-new 2012 Golf R on the Nürburgring.

We served up nonstop cycling action at the Volkswagen Sea Otter Classic, a four-day event in Monterey, CA. Along with the all-new Think Blue Tour trailer, free coffee, and ride and drives, VW also provided an owner parking lot that offered VIP spots to cycling enthusiasts who drove up in our favorite vehicles. As you’ll see from the pictures, this lot was packed, and the owners were thrilled. Volkswagen caught up with a handful of the owners to find out what makes endurance athletes and VWs such a great combination.
Half a million miles on one turbo

Recently, Matt Marion, an editor at Men’s Health, contacted Volkswagen to inform us that his MK IV Jetta 1.8T was approaching the 500,000 mile mark. It’s a remarkable milestone so he was invited to the Volkswagen Group of America offices in Auburn Hills, MI to do a thorough autopsy of the vehicle to determine what kept it going for so many miles.

Admit it, you’ve all imagined your car as Hal in “2001: A Space Odyssey.” Particularly as vehicles started including features that speak, owners began naming their cars. And if you’re like me, the person in there tends to get a little frustrated with you when you miss a left turn or know a shortcut.

While I was recently visiting The Volkswagen Electronics Research Lab (ERL) in Belmont, CA, to see a number of the latest innovations from Volkswagen (read my previous post on ERL), I also had the opportunity to get a sneak peek at a fleet of electric Golfs, badged as e-Golf.
