The Volkswagen Beetle is known for inducing smiles, and the latest addition to the Beetle family is no exception. Today at the Chicago Auto Show Volkswagen announced that a TDI Clean Diesel model of the 2013 Beetle will be available this summer.
The 2013 Beetle TDI is the first TDI Clean Diesel Beetle we’ve offered since 2006, but we think you’ll agree that it was worth the wait. It’s the most fuel-efficient Beetle yet, with a predicted fuel economy of 29 mpg city and 39 mpg highway. Besides its excellent efficiency, what sets this model apart is what’s under the hood.
The Beetle TDI makes the most of Volkswagen’s innovative 2.0-liter turbocharged, direct-injection Clean Diesel engine, which puts out 140 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque. That’s great news for your right foot, because all that extra torque equals substantially more responsive driving.
We don’t use the term “Clean Diesel” lightly. Like our other TDI models, the Beetle TDI features an exhaust system with a particulate filter and no less than three catalytic converters: one for oxidation, one for oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and one for hydrogen sulfide. For those of you who aren’t chemistry majors, that means that engine emissions are reduced. For that, we can all breathe easier.
The Beetle TDI will be available in three trim levels, including a TDI with Sunroof and a TDI with Sunroof, Sound, and Navigation. All three levels are very nicely equipped, with standard features like power windows with one-touch up/down; cruise control; V-Tex Leatherette seating; the Kaeferfach secondary glove box; Bluetooth®; a leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel with audio controls; three auxiliary gauges; Keyless entry with push-button start; and a Media Device Interface with iPod® cable.
Be sure to stop by the Volkswagen booth at the Chicago Auto Show to get an up-close look at the all-new 2013 Beetle TDI.

I hope you don’t stop at the beetle TDI. I hope to see a beetle TDI with a hardtop convertible
The old vioresn is no where near as safe as a modern vehicle and I would not want my kids in one. designed in WW2 as a utility vehicle! The newer vioresn is a VW Golf 2 door with a different body on it. May be awkward with a child due to poor boot space but as safe as a Golf would be. Not so popular as they were as seen as a bit twee.if you want something a bit different and convenient look at Peugeot 1007 a bit quirky and not many were sold as people were afraid of inovations on it.My other half has one and loves it and it was ridiculously cheap for its miles and year. I also like driving it sometimes as well. It even has a flappy paddle gearbox.
This is a good start. But I am looking for more from the Beetle! I want to have a Beetle that can be plugged in, and more! Keep up the good work!
i’m still waiting for mine ordered in Oct. no car no info.
We see that our CARE team has already been working with you on this. If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us at (800) 822-8987.
I have a TDI 2002 Beetle and love it. Waiting on the TDI to come in the 2012 model.
I have a 2003 TDI new Beetle that gets 50 to 55 mpg when I service it. So why is the new 2013 Dieasl only getting 30? I would like to get a new one but can not see why.
Please be advised that any fuel estimates are just that – estimates. Fuel mileage can vary based such factors as environmental conditions and driving habits. That said, the specs for our 2013 models have not yet been finalized. They are expected to be released closer to the launch date. For more info, feel free to give us a call at (800) DRIVE VW.

I wish they would stop messing with the design… the beauty and attraction of the VW Beetle was it’s unique and different look. I’ve wanted one since I was 17… that was 46 years ago… I’m looking for one now, but I want one that is about 7 years old… 8 years old tops… It’s on my “bucket list”… so I’m hoping to find one in my price range *L*
I’m being torchured bcuz of my loyalty to the VW BUG.. I’ve owned 11 Bugs in my lifetime.. 5 old ones & 6 new Bugs… but my latest one is gonna kill me.
I am a reggae/radio DJ and for 16 years I have owned and run LuvBug Movement Sound/promotions. I retired from my “real” job as a phone company tech in the USA and moved to Jamaica in January 2012 to pursue music full time. I couldn’t take my 2007 VW Bug to JA with me due to it being too old and the import fee is 68% of the cars value. I HOPED to buy a new 2012 VW Bug here in Jamaica but they haven’t been released to the Jamaican market and no one can tell me when or if they will be. I spend 2 months looking for a new style Bug here and found a 1998 which was brought to ATL AUTOWORKS (the ONLY VW DEALER IN JAMAICA) who told me the car had so much damage it wasn’t worth fixing. Every single part here seems to be a “special order” which takes WEEKS to get and they add on OUTRAGEOUS fees… If they give up the part # to me and I get the parts myself , in addition to the huge shipping costs & import fees the DEALER also will charge me an EXTRA 20% on the labour fees bcuz I got the part myself.
( I bought a 2001 Bug on recommendation from ATL AUTOWORKS (because i cannot OWN any other car besides a BUG!!!) and it overheated and broke down after 1 week. I had it towed (cost $200) and its been 2 weeks now. They say I need a $15 gasket which has to be special ordered and will be another 3 weeks before it comes in.. then that may not fix the problem but that’s where they will start.. so i owned it 1 week and don’t even have a chance of getting it back for at least 5 weeks.. I have 8 of the 11 bugs i’ve owned tatoo’d around my ankle.. my business logo is 3 bugs and i have the logo tatoo’d on my butt.. I AM LUVBUG… I can’t be anything else. I am PRAYING SOMEONE from VW reads this and can help me in any way!!!??? ALL I want is my BUG to be running and it’ll be a “Car sound” so i can DJ from the car wherever i go… I will wrap it in advertisement for my business and would be more than willing to fully endorse ANYTHING VW on it if i can get some assistance….

I just bought a 2012 beetle turbo (I LOVE it!!!) , but the drivers side window does the same thing, won’t just go up, it stops halfway & comes back down. The dealer is ordering the part right now. But, I do ADORE this car!!!!!
