They grow up so fast: A fond look back at the last New Beetle

We launched the “New Beetle” way back in 1998, which means that the first models are now teenagers. (Editor’s note: We feel old now.) The above commercial for the New Beetle was set to “Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space," the title track from the 1997 album by Spiritualized, and featured the line, “The engine’s in the front but its heart’s in the same place.” While we can’t disclose the exact location of the 2012 Beetle’s heart, rest assured that yours will race when you see it.

Volkswagen is donating a 21st Century Beetle to The American Comedy Fund. The all-new Beetle, which boasts a sleek new look, increased horsepower, new engine offerings and a higher fun-to-driving ratio, will be auctioned off on eBay Motors with all proceeds benefitting The American Comedy Fund.
