When we revealed the all-new 2012 Beetle in April, it was love at first sight for Beetle fans. And, as it turns out, you can put a price on love: Volkswagen announced that the 2012 Beetle will have a starting MSRP of only $18,995*. The Beetle will also offer the new Fender® Premium Audio System, designed exclusively for Volkswagen.
The 2012 Beetle will be available in a variety of models at launch, including models with powerful and efficient 2.5L and 2.0 TSI® turbocharged engines. The forthcoming TDI® Clean Diesel Beetle will offer an estimated 40 mpg* on the highway. LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT! THIS 2012 BEETLE IS SO COOL, SPORTY, ITS AWESOME!!! I WANT ONE!!!
Is it amoral to want to marry a car? Now if it comes in cool sage green, I’m willing to take a bullet for it, *Bryan Adams song “Everything I do I do for you” plays in the background*
Can’t wait til they are available! I love the new look.
Gotta have one! I’m in love w/Beetles. Love my 2005 convertible now gotta have the 2012 too!
I wonder how far you can customize the Beetle and how much more expensive it will be, considering their limited edition Black Beetle is $5000 more and I don’t see many features… Like that touchscreen dash unit… That puppy will so be added to my beetle. Sage green exterior, I shiver with excitement… Purrrrrrrrr meow!
Hey Kristina,
Keep in mind the pre-order car is a limited edition of the one with the 2.0L TSI engine that has a base MSRP price of $23,395. So it is really about $1500 more for larger wheels, different mirrors, graphics, and other miscellaneous stuff, and there is only going to be 600 of those made to boot!
Though I would like to know how much adding all those premium features is going to cost too for the regular models myself.
I drive a 1967 beetle and my wife has a 1964 with a sunroof. I have to get a red one to match my other car. I CAN HARDLY CONTAIN MY EXCITMENT!!!
Thanks for saihnrg. Always good to find a real expert.
Nobody Loves a Beetle like I do. I’ve passed the passion down to my kids. I would lovingly own this car. I wish I could talk my wife into it. Wish I knew Oprah. She could help me convince my wife I needed a turbo with a manual transmission. I don’t even care if its pink, Blues better though.
Is this car already available in dealerships?
September 2011 according to Motor Trend!
When the beetle will be available in dealerships?
Wonder if VW corporate reads the blog??? If so I would be great to get an idea when the new car will arrive.Of course maybe they don’t know or maybe its a better idea to keep everyone talking about “when” it will arrive – hum good marketing ———–
The 2012 Beetles will begin arriving in dealerships in September 2011.
Love the new BUG, Can’t wait to get mine!!! @VW when can we put a deposit down to order a new one?
You can pre-order the 2012 Beetle here: http://preorder.vw.com/
Pleasant Post. This transmit helped me in my college assignment. Thanks Alot
MY Wife Sharyl has a 2001 Beetle Sport “Turbo”. Her car is a female car and her name is MAGGEE. Sharyl told me today that after a decade with MAGGEE, she is ready for MAGGEE II in the form of the new 2012 Beetle. Think she’ll avoid turbo this time since the price of fuel is rising, but it sure has been fun fleeing Porsche’s for the first hundred yards or so at a light. She is anxious to order her new car. In a trip to our local dealer today, we were told that they won’t arrive until Oct. and that they cannot be pre-ordered and that they will start around 21K.
Any chance there will be a yellow one?
OMG….loving the new VW Beetle! Why did I have to total my car now?! I wish that I could get one of these this week! Can’t wait to see one on the showroom floor…
The new VW Beetle looks fantastic! It’s amazing new sleek design make it look even better. I love how they’ve redesigned it:)
Hmmm may have to wait for the convertible version…… Love my 2006 convertible.
So do my kids.
Do the 600 preorderedhave a sunroof?
The 600 introductory models you refer to come as is. No options can be added, though it is pretty loaded, featuring the 200 HP engine, DSG 6-speed dual clutch transmission and sports suspension.. I actually have been accepted for one after putting $ 500 down. As for a sunroom, one package for the 2012 Beetle is a panoramic sunroof. It comes as part of a package that includes the Fender sound systemm leather wrapped steering wheel and instrument cluster, light package, and maybe some other things – for about $ 2500.
My dealer said early Sept. He has test driven it, and likes it. He has sold me my last 2 (of 3) New Beetles.
Can’t wait to see the colors- other than white, black, silver and black…..
I have yet to see the pricing for the available options or option packages.
Have they released that info?
I’d love to see the pricing on the turbo with the upgraded stereo system.
I can’t wait to sit in one and hop behind the wheel. =]
Will the turbo diesel be availabe in the bug?
Yes!

Why did they change the style? I loved the 2000-2010 beetles
I’m turning 16 this month and just got a red 2008 beetle today!
I’m so happy, but it makes me worry that once it gets time to upgrade it they won’t have the style I like.
I’m so sad they changed it from cute and bubbly to modern and “sporty.”
Why would you do this to me Volkswagen???
I’m 49 and driven lots of cars, a toyota solara, a ford excursion, grand prix, but my 2000 VW Beetle is my all time favorite!!! I just love this little car. If someone told me they’d buy me any new car I wanted today and I mean ANY, I would pick a VW Beetle.
When will the TDI bug be available, here in Arizona, i had a brand new one in 2004 but becouse of a divorce, it had to be sold ,, im ready to buy a 2012 brand new TDI beetle, i hope they offer a color blue but i will buy another color, as long as it has the TDI , and triptronic automatic in it,, SO when can we buy a TDI bug, whats the soonest date, on delivery ??????
The Beetle TDI Clean Diesel will be available in Spring 2012. Stay tuned!
Love love the. Beetle, I owned 1 in the mid sixties and just loved driving it! Would like to get one soon, but prefer the 2009 , 2010 models love the look of them better than the new one that’s coming out.
When will there be a TDI Convertible option? I’ve got a 2008 red convertible and I LOOOOVE it. I too prefer the bubbly design of my car but would much prefer the interior of the new one. However, I MUST have a convertible!
My wife got the first one sold in the Northeast….. she can’t stop raving about her new WHITE TURBO 2.0. This is the third model we’ve had … and the best. Not that the others weren’t good…. but this one is the best. Everywhere she goes people treat her like a Rock Star… the car that is!!!
Hi Sam,Love the ccemmroial, I plan to buy this car and unfortunately I have never learned manual. I was wondering whether you can give me some advice as to which i should get. I know the automatic DSG is very highly rated, but I really wanted to learn manual in this car. Is it worth spending $2K on getting the DSG gearbox or should I get the manual version and finally learn. Any reply would be much appreciated!
My first car was a 1967 black VW Bug with 180,000 miles on it. I’ve had many Beetles over the years, and today I’m in a 2007 New Beetle 5-speed convertible. I’m a HUGE beetle fan! What I want to know is why did they need to ruin the whole personality of the car? Why would one even consider messing with such a beloved, iconic design? Was greed the sole motivator for diluting the brand by trying to make it fit within too many demographics… i.e. men) Weren’t they selling enough already? It’s not a Beetle anymore. It’s New Coke. I’m probably going to want to upgrade within the next 5 years.. BRING BACK THAT CLASSIC SHAPE WE ALL KNOW AND LOVE!
I love the new one its really sleak and sporty looking. But I have a 2004 Beetle Convertible, I love it. Its a stick and we pull it behind our RV every year to Fl. I don’t know if I would give up my little gray Beetle, it would really be hard. I would like to know when the convertible is comeing! I also have to have a convertible when in FL. I like the fact the new one has two glove boxes. But I still like mine. I also have heated seats. I just LOOOOOVE MINE!!!!
I’m sorry, but this is junk to me.
Classic Beetle forever.
I love the new bug, it’s very luxurious looking. I love it in black. This will be my car:)
I ordered my new Beetle September 30….still no word on delivery date!!!!! What’s up with that? Anybody else having that problem?
I too have had many VW bugs. I’ve loved all of them. When I saw the 2012 model, thought it may be time to check it out. However, I’m wondering if there will be a convertible. I’m a convertible kinda lady. Will I have to wait until next year?
At this time, we do not have a confirmed release date for the Beetle Convertible, but we hope to have them available in late Spring. For updates as they become available, feel free to visit us at http://blogs.vw.com/ or see your local VW dealer. Thanks for your interest, Mabel!
When will the topless version be released?
Ive had many bugs over the years. Love them! BUT youve ruined the whole ELEMENT OF FUN the bug had! I cant understand why you would want to change such an iconic style?!? So its a chick car! you should EMBRACE IT! Making it longer, wider and flatter make it look like all the other cars on the road! If I wanted a small sedan I would buy a Honda! its no longer a bug! ugh! I hate it!
